The pen will be released on Washington’s birthdate—Feb 22 in 2010.

A maximum of 1,799 Washington pens will be made, and the mold will be broken meaning no more will be made after December 14, 2010, the anniversary of Washington’s death.

Every pen carries a facsimile of Washington’s signature

On the rear of the pen can be seen part of the famous eulogy from Henry Lee, who said that Washington was ’...First in the Hearts of his Countrymen’.

 

Below this, General Howe’s dog, which was returned to him by Washington, after becoming lost in battle. General Howe was much taken with the gesture, marking it the act of a gentleman.

 

The pen also shows Nelson, Washington’s favourite warhorse, as well as his estate at Mount Vernon.
